PAST PRESENT FUTURES:
A DECADE OF ASIAN AOTEAROA ARTS

Edited by Kerry Ann Lee

Past Present Futures: A Decade of Asian Aotearoa Arts is a 144-page full-colour book that documents and expands upon the breadth, depth, and scope of the landmark Asian Aotearoa Arts Programme—a series of exhibitions, workshops, talks, tours and public events which ran from 2013-2024, that brought together and established a community of diverse Asian tauiwi creatives practising in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Edited by Kerry Ann Lee with support from Bronwyn Holloway-Smith, Sam Buchanan and Gia Espelita, this legacy publication is a smorgasbord of content that is part zine, part year book, part family photo album, with reflections and creative contributions from the community.

Published here for the first time are new commissioned essays by Ya-Wen Ho, Emma Ng, and Helen Yeung (Migrant Zine Collective); conversations with Simon Kaan, Kim Lowe, Kathryn Tsui, Amy Weng, and Kerry Ann Lee, Jas Sabrine and Gia Espelita, Esther Fung and Eda Tang; and illustrations by Marc Conaco. Contributors also include Rose Lu, Chris Tse, Alison Wong, Balamohan Shingade and many others.

Launched in December 2024, at Mabel's Restaurant in Pōneke Wellington, Past Present Futures was made possible by funding support through Creative New Zealand and Toi Rauwhārangi College of Creative Arts, Massey University, and is a limited edition of 300 copies.
