HAMSTER (Issue Whitu)
The Physics Room
The contributions in this issue follow that sticky question into the murky mythology of The Dunedin Power Silence scene, our faith in the internet and its collected criticisms, the ways we remake our beliefs and reconnect through what remains, and interviews with artists of the annual Artspace Aotearoa “new artist” exhibitions from 1998-2019.
The Physics Room is a contemporary art space dedicated to developing and promoting contemporary art and critical discourse in Aotearoa New Zealand. The Physics Room commission, edit, and publish HAMSTER Magazine; an experimental serial publication supporting critical writing and creative approaches to cultural production in Aotearoa. Attending to various concerns throughout its 7 issues, the 2020 issues Ono and Whitu feature work that responds to the question, “Do you believe?” The Editorial Group of Jamie Hanton, Hamish Petersen, and Michelle Wang organise these experiments with format, content, and distribution with support from Keren Oertly Ryan and Audrey Baldwin.
HAMSTER Whitu was designed by Erin Broughton and printed by Allied Press in full colour on a 24 page, 52gsm newsprint tabloid, with dual cover illustrations by Jessica Thompson-Carr.
